How to Connect Claude to Blockchain Data with an MCP Server
Give Claude live on-chain data in two minutes. Add the Bitquery MCP server to Claude.ai, Claude Desktop or Claude Code, sign in, and ask about tokens, wallets, traders, Hyperliquid and Polymarket in plain English.

The short answer
Claude can read live blockchain data through an MCP server. Add the Bitquery MCP server at https://mcp.bitquery.io as a connector, sign in once, and ask in plain English. Claude then calls typed tools for prices, DEX trades, traders, fund flows, address labels, Hyperliquid and Polymarket.
There is nothing to install. The server is hosted, and sign-in uses OAuth, so no API key goes into a prompt or a config file.
What MCP does for Claude
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the standard way to give Claude tools. Without one, Claude answers crypto questions from training data that is months old, or it tries to write GraphQL from memory and guesses field names.
With the Bitquery MCP server, Claude picks a tool such as token_ohlcv or top_traders_by_token, fills in the inputs, and gets clean rows back. The server holds 314 tools across 19 chains for transfers and fund tracing, plus DEX trading data on 10 chains, Hyperliquid and Polymarket.
Setup
Claude.ai and Claude Desktop
- Open Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector.
- Name it
Bitqueryand paste the URLhttps://mcp.bitquery.io. - Start a chat and ask a question. Sign in with your Bitquery account when the browser opens.
If you do not see Connectors, check that your Claude plan supports custom connectors.
Claude Code
Run one command in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http bitquery https://mcp.bitquery.io
Then type /mcp inside Claude Code and finish the browser login.
Your own agent
Agents built on the Anthropic SDK can point at the same URL as a remote MCP server. Clients that only run local (stdio) servers can connect through the mcp-remote bridge. Step-by-step guides for each client are in the MCP docs.
First prompts to try
| Job | Ask Claude |
|---|---|
| Token check | "Show the 1-hour price candles for this token over the last day and list the DEX pools it trades on." |
| New launches | "What are the trending new tokens on Solana in the last hour, and who were the early buyers?" |
| Trader research | "Who are the most profitable traders of this token this week, and what else do they hold?" |
| Hyperliquid | "Which markets had the biggest liquidations in the last 24 hours, and were longs or shorts wiped out?" |
| Polymarket | "What are the current odds on this market, and who are its largest holders?" |
| Investigation | "Trace where the funds from this address went, hop by hop, and label any exchanges or mixers." |
For repeat jobs, ask Claude to run a playbook. The server ships 15 of them, such as token_dashboard, money_flow and risk_screen. A playbook gives Claude a tested set of steps instead of an improvised one. The MCP launch post shows three full runs in Claude Code.
What it covers
| Area | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Fund tracing and transfers | 19 chains, including Ethereum, Solana, Tron, Bitcoin, Cardano and the XRP Ledger |
| DEX trades, prices and traders | Ethereum, Solana, BSC, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Tron, Robinhood Chain and Arc |
| Perpetuals | Hyperliquid prices, funding, open interest, liquidations and trader PnL |
| Prediction markets | Polymarket odds, trades, top traders and settlements |
| Labels | Exchanges, mixers, scams and sanctioned entities through the Address Labels API |
Trading history in the MCP server goes back about 30 days. The server is read-only. It cannot sign or send transactions, and it never holds keys.
What it costs
New Bitquery accounts get a 7-day free trial with 100 MCP credits, and no card is needed. After the trial there are two MCP plans:
| Plan | Monthly | Credits | Tools |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trading MCP | $19 | 25k a month | 32 trading tools: prices, OHLCV, DEX trades and top traders |
| AI Investigation MCP | $149 | 200k a month | All 314 tools, including fund tracing and address labels |
Yearly billing takes 30% or more off. Teams on a paid API plan can top up credits instead. See the pricing page for the full list.
Troubleshooting
- Claude does not call the tools. Name the data you want ("use Bitquery to…") in the first message. Claude picks tools more reliably when the source is clear.
- The sign-in window does not open. In Claude Code, run
/mcpagain. In Claude.ai, remove the connector and add it again. - A tool returns nothing. Check the chain and the address format. An address on the wrong chain returns an empty result, which can look like "no activity".
FAQ
How do I connect Claude to blockchain data?
Add the Bitquery MCP server at https://mcp.bitquery.io as a custom connector in Claude.ai or Claude Desktop, or run claude mcp add --transport http bitquery https://mcp.bitquery.io in Claude Code. Sign in once and ask in plain English.
Is there an MCP server that gives Claude on-chain data?
Yes. The Bitquery MCP server is hosted at https://mcp.bitquery.io and gives Claude 314 tools for prices, DEX trades, traders, fund tracing, address labels, Hyperliquid and Polymarket.
Do I need an API key?
No. Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with your Bitquery account, so no key is pasted into Claude or stored in a config file.
Is it free?
New accounts get a 7-day free trial with 100 MCP credits and no card. After that, MCP plans start at $19 a month.
Can Claude trade or move funds through it?
No. The server is read-only. It cannot sign or send transactions and never holds keys.
